More Information: While Hampson is enjoying his life and new career, he has never lost his passion for music or songwriting. He's been working on his first solo album for the last six months. "I always write and demo songs, so originally I was just writing and demoing, not really worrying about where they were going to end up," he said about the new material. Originally, Hampson thought that it could be new material for another Nine Days record, potentially a follow up to the band's 2006 release Slow Motion Life. After collaborating with Nine Day's co-vocalist Brian Desveaux, it became apparent that the new material should be used on a solo album. "Brian has always had a love for country - old country, like George Jones. A lot of what he is writing is very country-ish," said Hampson. "I just could not connect to it in the way of Nine Days, so I ended up deciding that this is my solo record."
He told Alternative Addiction in a recent interview that the sound of the album is a bit of a departure from his music with Nine Days."It's less rock, a lot more acoustic guitars, and a lot more vocals," said Hampson. "I really was going for a lot of layered harmonies and textures."
More than anything else, Hampson says the change in sound due mostly to his maturation as a musician."It's been a long time since the last full Nine Days record. I've kind of grown up a bit, (and) I've had a lot of different life experiences," he explained. "If I had put out a [solo] record right after So Happily Unsatisfied, it would probably sound a lot like a Nine Days record. This is just an extension of my life at this point."
